The AMERICAN
BIBLE SOCIETY
1972

The art director at The American Bible Society was very in touch with everything au courant, and, as I was doing many posters at this time, he asked me to do a poster with a quote from Paul’s letters to the Galatians which goes on about peace and love which was the coin of the day, so to speak. It was the kind of quote that could be accepted by every believer and non-believer alike. I did a pastiche of Parrish and Lord Leighton (note the ubiquitous “Parrish Pot”). Originally the girl was nude but this exceeded their limits.

Transparent watercolor, acrylic paint, ink.
